What We Talked About
“We had a whole week to learn how to pronounce this,” Adam sighed, as everyone fumbled saying Kaun? correctly. The team picked it because “these movies are two to three hours long… so we’re looking for movies that were like an hour and a half,” said Nicky, only for Khilli to realise later, “It would have been a really solid, tight film if it was like around 30 to 45 minutes.”
They talked about how hard it was to even find the film. “We watched a copy on YouTube, which we will put the link in the description,” Adam confessed. Khilli explained, “It was made by Ram Gopal Varma and script written by Anurag Kashyap… so both big names,” but Adam added, “I wasn’t able to find it even on Usenet. I have access to every movie if I want. I could not find this.”
Winnie watched it differently: “I just watched a movie like right before recording this podcast on 1.5x speed… it’s the first time I ever did that.” Adam immediately reacted, “I’m waiting for fans to completely tear you apart. You’re very brave for saying this.”
The conversation spiralled into how annoying Manoj Bajpayee’s character is. “You’re downplaying how annoying this guy is,” Adam said. Khilli jumped in, “I didn’t mean to downplay, but he’s fucking annoying… he just keeps coming back again and again.” But despite the annoyance, Khilli admitted, “He’s like a phenomenal actor because like he made all of us feel some type of way.”
They discussed the film’s production too. “The movie is done in 15 days… there’s like the whole single setting thing,” said Khilli. Adam noted, “Story-wise it’s like Psycho… cinematography-wise it’s very clearly Sam Raimi inspired.”
And the horse statues. So many horse statues. “Most of the time, the foreground object is a horse, like a face of horse,” Khilli pointed out. Adam laughed, “Those are the kind of details you miss watching at 1.5x.”
By the end, despite their complaints, Khilli realised something: “I was making fun of the movie in the beginning, but if I’m talking about it like all this much, then that probably means that I did like the movie… it left an impact.”
